Bethania Work to Date

A programme of works was undertaken by Addoldai Cymru in 2007 to try and safeguard and stabilise the building and stop its condition deteriorating. Repairs were undertaken to the roof, guttering and leadwork and front pediment, with the aim of stopping water getting into the building, and additional grills and polycarbonate sheeting were installed to protect the windows, making the building more secure. The cost of the work was £48,000, supervised by architects Acanthus Holden, and the contractor was Stafford Construction Ltd. Funding came from Cadw, Bridgend County Borough Council, (including Town Improvement Grant and Welsh Church Act Fund), Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme. However, this work is merely scratching the surface of what is required at Bethania – the main repairs required to the historic fabric of the building are estimated to be over a £1,000,000.
